Campus growth
The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Technical Education Center started with two buildings in 1964 and expanded to two campuses when it merged with Palmer College in 1973. A third campus was built near Moncks Corner in 1982 to better meet the needs of students living in Berkeley County. In 1986, the Palmer campus was moved to its current location in downtown Charleston which has been expanded through a series of renovation starting in 1986. In 1993 and 1994 the college purchased 147 acres (59 ha) adjacent to its Main campus in North Charleston and in 1997 opened the first phase of the Complex for Economic Development. The Complex for Economic Development was completed during 2005 and 2006 with the Culinary Institute of Charleston and the Information Technology Center opening in 2005 and the Learning Center, Trident Aeronautical Training Center, Nursing Auditorium, and Industrial Maintenance Technology Center opening in 2006. In 2008 the Palmer campus was renovated and expanded and the St. Paul's Parish site was opened in Hollywood, SC to meet the needs of students living in southern Charleston county.
