University of Minnesota-Twin Cities College of Design is located on the Saint Paul and Minneapolis campuses. The College of Design includes the full range of design disciplines at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. It is home to seven undergraduate majors, which include architecture, apparel design, graphic design, housing studies, interior design, landscape architecture, and retail merchandising. There are 19 graduate degree programs, 7 undergraduate minors, 10 research centers, and the Goldstein Museum of Design.

Campuses

Saint Paul

The College of Design is located in McNeal Hall on the Saint Paul campus. The programs of apparel design, graphic design, interior design, housing studies, and retail merchandising call McNeal Hall their home.

The Goldstein Museum of Design is also located in McNeal Hall.

Minneapolis

Rapson Hall is located on the Minneapolis campus and is home to the architecture, landscape architecture, and product design programs.

Dean

Thomas R. Fisher is a professor of architecture and the Dean of the College of Design. He has given numerous presentations and interviews, and has written many publications. In addition he has eight books published.

Programs

Architecture

  • Ralph Rapson (1914-2008) was head of the architecture school from 1954-1984. He was one of the world's oldest practicing architects, passing at the age of 93, and also one of the most prolific.
  • The department is celebrating its centennial in 2013.

Apparel Design

  • Collaborated with NASA Headquarters on wearable technology designs.

Buckman Fellowship

  • The Buckman Fellowship encourages leadership in philanthropy. Fellows receive $1000 to support their philanthropic projects. Applications are due in April.
